Community is Key

There’s a secret ingredient to the wellness journey. No, it’s not some crazy diet or unattainable exercise regimen. It’s actually something that’s right in your backyard, or at the tip of your fingers. Community. Once you start to feel alone in this journey is when your goals seem out of reach. Building a community is an amazing way to stay accountable, brainstorm ideas, and build relationships for when the road bumps are feeling extra hard. Here are some of my favorite way to build wellness-based communities:

1)  A journaling club: I’ve said it time and time again, this journey is more than physical. Taking care of your mental wellbeing is just as, or even more important. Getting together with like-minded individuals to journal about goals and reflections is a powerful way to stay mindful of your wellness. The best part is that this can be done virtually or in person! Check out some incredible journal prompts here.

2) Create an exercise team: For some people, exercise can be the hardest part of wellness. It can be hard to stay motivated, come up with fresh ideas, or push yourself to new heights during a workout! If this resonates with you, try getting together with some friends to participate in a group workout! Not only is it a great way to socialize, but it keeps you accountable as well. You’re less likely to skip out on a workout if you know that your friends are at the park waiting for you! Give it a try.

3) Recipe Club: You’ve heard of book clubs, but what about recipe clubs? Food ruts are REAL! And they are HARD! Nourishing your body is one of the most important things you can do for it, but sometimes we get stuck. Whether it’s formal or informal, having a group of people to exchange recipes with, try new recipes with, and cook with can make a huge difference! You are never in it alone.

4) Daily Check Ins: Daily check ins with friends is a great way to accomplish small goals. Instead of setting an alarm to drink water or get up and stretch, have a buddy to do this with! Getting a text from your wellness partner reminding you to grab a sip of water or take a lap around the block is much more special than your phone doing it for you! Who knows, maybe you could make a competition out of it?

While this is just a short list, the idea of community building goes on forever. Always know that you are never alone in this journey, and there’s always a team of people to lift you up when times get hard, including me! I believe in you.
